Book Description

The Course of the Flesh

For who could fain a soul controlled,
Whilst craving teeth on supple lobes,
Ignore the cockles thrashing toll,
Like the Muse’s hot whisper in the ear.

Youth's blossom, the soul intoxicates
Blood that seethes on petals to devour
A flower’s beguiling grand seduction
Fighting the dizzy lust to englut

Later deep in season's sweet opine
Mature consuming blooms delight,
In waves that swell and yearn to crash
On thundered shores where youth subsides

No difference, to those thus immured
In youthful folly, or mature love sublime,
The marrow sets the quickened course,
The eye and hand, the time.

The human body is the most universally loved and powerful form of art. Poetry In Motion seeks to capture the indivisible splendor of physical and spiritual magnificence that is the human form. Featuring juxtaposed photography and verse from award-winning photographers, models and writers around the globe, and complemented with select classic passages, Poetry In Motion is a creative resource of enlightenment for artists, painters, sculptors, writers and all students of humanity.

Details

Poetry in Motion is an extensive project by author, photographer and artist, Bryant H. McGill. The objective of the project is to create a resource of enlightenment for artists, painters, sculptors students and readers of poetry. Poetry in Motion will be comprised of human figures of all sizes, shapes, ages and positions. The photographic technique being used is raw and honest, while attempting to capture the beauty, grace, lines and brilliance of the human body's magnificent design. Most images are artistic, fine art black and white nudes.

Poetry in Motion will be published in book format (and possibly CD-ROM and web), and will be available in traditional bookstores everywhere. Each volume will be published in two configurations. First, the standard 6 X 9 volume including poetry which is designed for the reader of poetry and the artist. Second, the 8 1/2 X 11 artist work book, which is absent the poetry, and is accompanied with digital light studies, outlines, spectrum arrays, De Vinci grids and other artistic renditions designed to help artist grasp the light dynamics of the subject image. Each model or photographer will receive credit in the book next to their image.

Issues for Consideration

How do I get started? What do I do first?
The first thing you need to do is make sure that the images you have are licensed to you. Next you need to ensure that the images are available in digital format and that they are at a resolution which is suitable for reproduction in a book. As a general rule, if your images were taken with an inexpensive digital camera they will probably not qualify. Images need to be 150 to 300 dpi and suitable for printing output at least four inches wide under a portrait format. If the images were taken with a professional-grade digital camera, with a minimum of four or five megapixels, or if you have the original negative, or a clear 8 x 10 print you will in all likelihood be fine.

After meeting the above criteria, you may send your submissions to the following address (submissions@bryantmcgill.com) in low resolution, 72 dpi format. Along with your prints, you must send your real name and actual contact information. You must also state in the submission e-mail that you own the reproduction rights to all of the photographs included. You are also encouraged to tell us a little bit about yourself and your goals, though this is not necessary. After making your submission, DO NOT CONTACT US - WE WILL CONTACT YOU!

Will Rejected Images Be Returned?
Images will not be returned, and you will only be contacted by E-MAIL if your photographs have been accepted. We recommend submitting your images for approval via e-mail to avoid these issues.

Will I still own my image?
Image licensing shall be NON-exclusive reproduction rights only. This means that you grant Bryant H. McGill a non-exclusive right to reproduce your image in his projects. You do not transfer ownership of the image, nor do you lose any reproduction rights. You merely grant non-exclusive right for the image to be used in books, CDs, web sites and other marketing materials related to the project at hand.

What about the cover?
Some lucky person will be selected for the cover photograph. You may request that a particular image you send in be considered for the cover. Please do not e-mail us asking if your photograph has been accepted. We will contact you.(THE COVER IMAGE HAS BEEN SELECTED)

What rights do I need to submit an image?
You must own the reproduction rights to any image you submit for consideration. Any person who submits an image that is subsequently published, not having reproduction rights and ownership of that image will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law were any damages incurred.

What about erotic photos?
We want to be very clear about this issue. Eroticism is a natural part of life, and the human experience and therefore, there will be tasteful degrees of light eroticism in the form of fine art and nude photographs included in the book. That being said, imagery expressing emotions and experiences of eroticism will be maintained proportionally within the context of the full spectrum of human expression. Vulgar displays of pornography and eroticism will not be considered. Lewd or lascivious images to any degree will not be considered. Please keep this in mind when submitting your work and use your judgment.

Are you accepting only artistic nudes?
We are primarily accepting fine art nudes, however we are also considering partial nudes and in rare exceptions, fully clothed photographs.

What type of poses are you looking for?
We are looking for all types of poses including, but not limited to, images of every conceivable body part and angle. Refined, glamour, rough, raw and all compositional formats; teeth, toes, legs, ears, hands and noses — if you can think of it, we would like to see your artistic interpretation.

What type of models are you looking for?
We are looking for models of all ages, weights, races, sexes and skin types. We are not just looking for glamour models. We want real people, not exclusively perfect people. This means we want wrinkles, imperfections, deformities and injuries, body types of all sizes and not just people who are glamour models.

How many photographs may I submit?
You may submit up to 50 photographs, and no more than 10 photographs can be accepted for any one particular model or photographer. On rare occasion, if we find a particular model or photographer with exceedingly impressive work, we may accept more photographs.

Once accepted, can I tell people about my acceptance before publication?
If you have received official notification that your work has been accepted for publication, you may place that on your résumé or portfolio whenever you like.

It has been months and I have not heard back from you!
We have received thousands of image submissions. Please be patient and someone will get back to you IN THE EVENT YOUR IMAGE IS SELECTED.

Back Cover Special Mentions

A number of models, photographers and poets will be mentioned on the back cover. Typically this is due to superior work, substantial contributions or other distinguishing characteristics we deem substantial and deserving. You will be notified if your name is to be included on the back cover.
