Lawrence L'lphant, la vieille bte norme, est lent pour joindre; il trouve une femelle, ils ne montrent aucune rapidit qu'ils attendent pour la sympathie leurs vastes coeurs timides lentement, lentement au rouse comme ils flnent le long des fleuve-lits et boivent et passent en revue et le tiret dans la panique par le frein de la fort avec le troupeau, et le sommeil dans le silence massif, et se rveillent ensemble, sans mot. Tellement lentement les grands coeurs chauds d'lphant se dveloppent compltement du dsir, et les grandes btes joignent dans le secret enfin, cachant leur feu. Le plus vieux elles sont et le plus sage des btes ainsi elles savent enfin attendre le plus seul des rgals pour le plein repast. Elles ne saisissent pas, elles ne dchirent pas; leur sang massif se dplace pendant que les lune-mares, prs, de plus prs jusqu' ce qu'elles touchent en inondation.
