This is one man's journey, as I see it anyway, all based upon one simple question, "What if...?"
A Brief Moment In Time
The angels are playing by light of the moon,
I know they are waiting, I'll play with them soon.
the light from the heavens is drawing me in,
this is a fight that I know I can't win.
My life was so normal, I thought I'd grow old,
but I could have died on the day I was told,
the cancer had set in and taken a hold
of my body and mind, then my heart and my soul.
My children I cry for, as they'll never know
a father who loves them, as I love them so.
Too young to remember, too naive to care,
but every day that I live, they'll know I am there.
So here I am, staring death in the face,
that light in the distance, the door to my place.
To be greeted by angels, to a heavenly tune,
to join them in play by the light of the moon.
The twilight draws close to my days on this earth,
a short thirty five years to my death, from my birth.
It's true what they say, that life is too short,
one day you are there and the next, just a thought.
But I hope they are thoughts that will make people smile
when they come to visit, and we talk for a while.
I'll be in their hearts, in their minds, everywhere,
they need only remember to know I am there.
I cry for my children, I want them to know,
that daddy is watching and loving them so.
I'm missing my wife and my family and friends,
but I smile, see, I know that we'll all meet again.

That is so beautifully written. I hope its not true. But if it is, what a legacy in words alone to leave behind. If not, I hope someone who is at a loss for words find this and shares it one day with his children.
The cancer thing is close to me cause I have faced that, and have temporary reprieve, hopefully I have killed the &*(( thing.
So all in all this is wonderful
thanks for sharing

If by saying, "I hope it's not true", you mean you hope that I don't have cancer, well thankfully I don't. Like I said at the top of the poem, one day I just thought "What if I did?" and it went from there.
I'm so glad you like it and thank you for your kind comments as ever. I hope you've beaten it for good too by the way.

you know you should book your stuff, I find myself reading you over and over. I like the way your mind works. How you can write about things so personally close to people even though you yourself may not have gone through it or whatever. I guess thats the aspects of an artist, to be able to see into what they personally have not experienced, and write with passion something that would help someone who is. Then when you do write something that is truly yours it comes across just as deeply. Your very good Ped

Christa, I have to say that your comments are about the nicest words anyone has ever passed on to me. I am truly humbled. Thank you.
I do not see myself as an artist. Guess I've never thought of it that way - seems a bit too 'professional', so to speak - lol!! Really, I'm just an ordinary guy who writes stuff occasionally; no more, no less than that.
If I write something based on the "What if...?" factor then I can only close my eyes and try to imagine and maybe draw from what little knowledge or experience I have, if any.
Stuff written based on personal experience, well, as I'm certain you'll know, that's straight from the heart so it kind of speaks for itself.
Thing is though Christa, as long as what I write has some deeper meaning to me, then that's all that counts. I seek no approval or critique though I welcome either if people are kind enough to want to. Any reaction makes me happy. That even one person has given their own time to read and then comment is a blessing. It's the sort of thing that keeps the smile on my face.
