About Us

Sponsoring children in need is breaking the cycle of poverty

Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, physical, economic and social poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.

Founded by Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean war orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training.

Today, Compassion helps more than 800,000 children in 24 countries.

A passion for children

My wife and I have been a Compassion International sponsors and volunteer advocates for many years. Our family sponsors three children, one in the Philippines, Indonesia and Uganda.

Compassion is child focused, and Christ centered and have projects in 24 countries helping over 800,000 children.

Their mission is not to change a child's community, but to inspire and support a child to change the world through the love of Christ and the generosity of their  sponsors.

Compassion aligns themselves with local churches throughout the world to create projects that maintain the culture of the specific region. They believe that local pastors, teachers and helpers demonstrates that it is Christ that makes the difference, not financial aid (there are many countries that are involved in sponsorship) . Personally, I love a philosophy that preserves the regional culture because we should celebrate diversity.

We pay $32.00 per month per child and we have a personal relationship with each. Our family write letters, send photos and celebrate birthdays and all Christian holidays together. Compassion's goal is that not less than 80% of my sponsor contribution goes directly to my sponsored children, and it is more like 82% that they actually achieve.

More than 30,000 children die DAILY due to hunger and hunger related disease, but you can make a difference in eliminating that number by starting with one.

God bless,
Dennis

Absolutely a phenomenal organization. We sponsor a young man in El Salvador and had an opportunity to visit him in April. The project he is educated at supports 300 children and their families. It has been running for the last 8 years and we were the FIRST sponsors to visit this project! We had such a warm welcome from the children. They are wonderful and I will forever remember our time there!

I am pleased to say that my personal goal of child sponsorships was met for this year. I set a goal last year of working events that would get a 1000 children sponsored in 2007. Praise God that the Compassion team and I combined to achieve 1007 sponsorships. My goal for 2008 is now 1200 children.

Will you please help Compassion International reach their goal of 1,000,000 by 2010 by sponsoring a child?

God bless,
Dennis
